I wonder how the penguins are doing in the Antarctic right now. There is certainly a lot of nature on that continent. I am looking forward to James Lowery’s talks and slide presentations at Celebrate Science Indiana on Saturday, October 5. He has visited that continent multiple times and will have much to share about those experiences.

I like snow but I really have an interest in learning more about chemistry and gases. This year is 150th anniversary of the periodic table and chemists are very excited to show you what they do. The Indiana Chapter of the American Chemical Society and the Lilly sponsored Chemistry is a Blast with shows at 10 am, Noon, 2 pm and 4 pm are definitely two stops to make on your way around the Elements Pavilion building. As you make the loop don’t forget to take the chemistry challenge at You be The Chemist and visit our university friends too: IUPUI, Butler, Marian University, Purdue University, University of Indianapolis, Indiana University, IU School of Medicine. They can also discuss forensics, biology, plant science, computer science and much more.

Well I really enjoyed the tour so far but I need to take a little break. Sure, rest a bit and put your engineering talents to the test. Go over to the Kids Zone and see how well you do making a tower out of spaghetti for the steel components and marshmallows for the supports. Can you build it two feet tall?

Now that I have rested, I would like to know more about weather and the environment. I have just the exhibitors for you. The IUPUI Center for Environmental Studies, the National Weather Service/Purdue Climate Change Research Center, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and NOAA are ready to answer your questions.

This has been great so far. With this being the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, I did have some questions about space science and will be visiting the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space and the Indiana Astronomical Society booths.

Are there any groups that provide opportunities for afterschool and on weekends? Yes, the Indiana State Museum, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Conner Prairie, the Indianapolis Public Library, the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and the Boy Scouts of America will be at Celebrate Science Indiana and have a lot to offer students throughout the week and on weekends.

Wow, I have so many interests, who else will be there? Many other friends of Celebrate Science Indiana will be there: Indiana State Fairgrounds with live farm animals, Indiana Academy of Science, Heritage Research Group, MSD Wayne Township, Irving Materials (IMI), IN State Department of Health, Corteva Agriscience, Beckman Coulter, Health & Science Services, FedEx Racing, MUCOM, Culver Academy, MISO, Covance, Herron/Riverside Schools, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Network of Genetic Counselors, The Kasey Program, Kuraray Monosol, Chip Gnassi Racing, Donate Life Indiana, HASTI, and NOBCChe. Each one of these exhibitors will all be there ready to engage you in activities that demonstrate what they do and answer questions that you have about their individual field of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
